Steelers camp: T.J. Watt talks preseason performance, playing at Heinz Field

LATROBE -- T.J. Watt had four sacks in the opening four snaps of the Pittsburgh Steelers' first preseason game last week. Starting at right outside linebacker, he added five tackles, one batted pass and six total quarterback pressures before the game was over.

Still, at training camp on Thursday, Watt, the Steelers' first-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, said there are still things he needs to improve.

"I'm my biggest critic and there are certain plays that I could've made. ... All different things in my game," he said. "I'm just trying to be a more well-rounded person and more of a well-rounded player."

After the game -- the Steelers defeated the New York Giants 20-12 -- head coach Mike Tomlin said the two sacks would probably be the easiest of Watt's career. On Thursday, Watt said he'll take a sack wherever he can get it.

"You can't take anything for granted," he said. "You have to come out here each and everyday and act like the rookie that I am and try to prove people wrong every single week. That's going to continue throughout the season."

As the regular season inches closer, Watt said he feels prepared because of the amount of reps he's taken. Right now, he's focused on the Steelers' second preseason game. On Sunday, they'll face the Atlanta Falcons at Heinz Field.

It'll be Watt's second time playing at Heinz Field. The first came during the Steelers' practice at the stadium.

"I think it was awesome to get out there and definitely in front of the fans," Watt said. "At the same time, [the preseason game] is a whole different animal.

"We'll be staying in the pads and it'll be a game-like atmosphere in front of all of Steeler Nation and a home game for the first time. It's going to be awesome."
