Bruno Mars to donate $1 million towards Flint water crisis relief

FLINT, MI -- Singer Bruno Mars has pledged $1 million to the Community Foundation of Greater Flint to aid relief efforts for the Flint water crisis.

Bruno Mars, born Peter Gene Hernandez, made the announcement Saturday night during his concert at the Palace of Auburn Hills, according to Isaiah Oliver, president and CEO of the Community Foundation of Greater Flint.

The donation is being made by Bruno Mars and tour promoter Live Nation via funds from the concert, according to a Hollywood Reporter story.

"With a grateful heart, the Community Foundation of Greater Flint is honored to accept this inspiring donation," Oliver said. "We know Bruno Mars' $1 million gift will be transformative to the children and families of Flint.

"He understands the issues faced by Flint citizens, and we are touched by his concern and generosity."

Other entertainers have made donations to the Community Foundation of Greater Flint in the past few years, including late night talk show host Jimmy Fallon, Detroit rapper Big Sean, and singer Beyonce.
