President Donald Trump’s official tweets have become newsworthy for a number of reasons. The man who serves as America’s 45th sitting President has used the social networking platform to take issue with Saturday Night Live, berate the cast of a Broadway musical, and insult a Civil Rights leader and U.S. Representative on the weekend leading up to the Martin Luther King Jr. memorial holiday. Sunday brought news that the person behind President Trump’s tweets has a history of promoting what has been deemed “fake news.”
The official bio blurb of the @POTUS handle has been updated to reflect the change with the following language:
“45th @POTUS @realDonaldTrump. Working on behalf of the American people to make our country great again. Tweets by @DanScavino. Tweets by #POTUS signed -DJT.”
Dan Scavino's official position is Director of Social Media. Prior to confirmation of his position under President Trump, Scavino shared content from the conspiracy theory site Infowars.com and promoted anti-vaccination articles.
Interestingly enough, both Trump and members of his cabinet have accused media outlets of promoting “fake news.” Earlier this month, Trump accused NBC of promoting fake news by not attributing the return of domestic jobs at General Motors, Lockheed Martin, and other companies to him. Yet Scavino himself has been linked to uncorroborated stories regarding Ted Cruz and an anti-Semitic picture of Hillary Clinton.

Scavino’s ties to Trump apparently date back to when Scavino was a teenager.
“Mr Scavino first met Mr Trump in 1990, when he was 16 and working as a caddy at a golf club in New York,” wrote Ben Kentish of the Independent. “Mr. Trump reportedly told him, ‘You’ll work for me one day.’ The businessman later bought the golf club and promoted Mr Scavino to be its manager.”
Reports indicate Trump is still in charge of his occasionally typo-riddled personal Twitter account under the @realDonaldTrump handle.
