Matt Gaetz is having one helluva week. On Tuesday The New York Times revealed that the congressman and self-described “Florida Man” is currently being investigated by the Justice Department for allegedly having sex with a 17-year-old and paying for her to travel with him. Later that night, Rep. Gaetz went on Tucker Carlson Tonight to try and clear the air. As Esquire’s Jack Holmes reported, this did not go well. On Thursday, CNN reported that Gaetz had a habit of showing nude photos of women he’d sleep with to other congressmen. Speaker Pelosi called for an Ethics Committee inquiry into the accusations against Gaetz. Then on Friday, Gaetz’s longtime spokesperson, Luke Ball, abruptly quit.

All of that and it wasn't even the weekend yet. By the time Saturday Night Live was scheduled to air, Matt Gaetz was prime rib just waiting to be roasted. “Weekend Update” Co-anchor Colin Jost wasted no time digging into Gaetz. “Representative Matt Gaetz, who looks like a caricature drawing of me, is reportedly under investigation for a sexual relationship with an underage girl because Gaetz believes only voters should have to show ID,” said Jost. “It’s also being reported that Gaetz may have paid for sex with women he met online. That story has since been confirmed by his whole vibe.”

But the best part of Jost’s roast came when he called out the QAnon community for their radio silence. “Here’s the craziest part of the story for me,” said Jost, “a sitting congressman is being accused of child trafficking and the QAnon people are like eh, I need more evidence. That was your whole thing!”

The good news for comedians (and bad news for Gaetz) is that this clusterf*ck is far from over. Gaetz has denied all of the allegations against him and claims to be the victim of an extortion plot. He also said he has no plans to resign which means the Weekend Update writers won’t have to scramble for laughs anytime soon. When it comes to Matt Gaetz, the jokes write themselves.
