Durban - A Durban man is in a critical condition after he was shot several times in an apparent armed robbery on Felix Dlamini Road in Mayville on Wednesday.
Rescue Care spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said medics arrived on the scene to find the man had been critically wounded.
"He had sustained several gunshot wounds and paramedics immediately set about treating him, making sure we stabilised his condition while at the roadside."
Jamieson said the injured man was then rushed by ambulance to the Nu Shifa Private Hospital in Sydenham for further urgent care.
A police source with knowledge of the incident, who cannot be named, confirmed that police were investigating a case of armed robbery and attempted murder.
Footage of the shooting shows three gunmen, one of whom is brandishing a rifle, surround the car and open fire on the man before they flee.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Shooz Magudulela said the victim had just been to a nearby bank.
"The suspects opened fire before taking an undisclosed amount of cash. The victim sustained two gunshot wounds to his left arm and left side of the body," he said.
