Woman suffered broken bones and requires surgery but her unborn child was unharmed in incident in Salford

Police are appealing for witnesses after a pregnant woman was thrown on to the bonnet of a car in a collision.

The 34-year-old woman, who is five months pregnant, suffered broken bones and requires surgery, but her unborn child was not harmed.

Police said she was crossing Bury New Road in Salford when she was in collision with a dark VW Polo or Golf. The woman was carried on the bonnet of the car for a short distance before it stopped.

The driver got out and words were exchanged before he got back in the car and drove off. The driver was described as tall, white and in his 20s or 30s, and and was wearing casual clothing.

PC Mike Connolly, of Greater Manchester police, said: “The woman is five months pregnant but thankfully the baby is OK. However, the victim suffered broken bones in her right arm and leg and will undergo surgery soon.

“I would ask anyone who may have witnessed the collision or knows who the driver is to call police as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information about the incident, which occurred at 7.35pm on 23 November, should phone police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
