Kraftwerk have confirmed details of a “3D album” – translating their current visual show into a release scheduled for autumn 2015.
Speaking to Rolling Stone, the group’s only original member, Ralf Hütter, explained that their 3D performances at venues such as New York’s MoMA, the Düsseldorf Kunstsammlung, London’s Tate Modern, the Sydney Opera House and Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles would be turned into Blu-Ray format.
“We translated our performances to 3D, and in surround sound, kind of like 3D sound. We’ve been doing this and working on a Blu-Ray to make this available,” said Hütter.
“It should be coming out in the late fall. We’ve put a lot of work into all the images, transforming from our Kling Klang archives into 3D format and arranging it synchronized with the music, so it’s quite a lot of production. We’re quite a small team of musicians, technicians, computer programmers here at Kling Klang Studios; we do everything ourselves. That’s what we’ve been working in, and still are. When we travel to America, we’ll hopefully be finished with this work.”
During the interview, he also spoke passionately about cycling, as well as revealing that Kraftwerk were working on new “tracks and patterns and sound compositions”.
“Once we are finished with our work on the 3D Catalogue, those eight albums, then we will concentrate on number nine,” he said.
