Courtesy Tatum WanTo honor the one-year anniversary of Diem Brown's death, her family, friends and more paid tribute the best way they could: hosting a dance party.
MTV cast members and others gathered at No. 8 club in New York City Thursday where they celebrated Brown's life with a party filled with glow sticks, '80s music and so much more. Brown passed away on Nov. 14, 2014, after more than a decade-long battle with cancer.
"She was one of the good ones," Aneesa Ferreira of MTV's The Real World: Chicago told People at the event. "People respected her for standing up to cancer and laughing in its face."
Although the event was held in honor of The Challenge star's life, it also doubled as a fundraiser for MedGift, Brown's charity. "We were always dancing together," Ferreira added. "No one could compete with her on the dance floor—whether she had hair or didn't!"
Her sister, Megan Brown, opened up about Diem's passion for life and said she wants everyone to remember her for her positive outlook on life, despite her struggle.
"I hope people remember, she was diagnosed at 22 and passed at 34," Megan explained to the magazine. "In that short time she did more than people do their whole lives. After she passed I realized she inspired thousands and thousands. She was an inspiration of strength and had a love of life."
Brown was very vocal about her cancer battle, telling E! News before she passed that she was looking forward to having "one painless, fun day."
"That would help restart everything," she told us exclusively.
Megan also revealed the advice she thought her sister would give if she had the opportunity. "In the last few days of her life she would say 'Live like it's your last day,'" Megan recalled.
"She never realized how quickly cancer was going to take her. I think she would want everyone to not sweat the small stuff, and focus on the big story—surround yourself with good people and live your life to the fullest."
