A week before the election, Wendy Davis is running out of money. The Texas Democratic Gubernatorial hopeful trying to “turn Texas blue” is nearing the red when it comes to campaign cash.

Viewed by progressives as their best hope in the Lone Star state, Davis’ latest campaign filing shows she raised slightly more than $7 million between September 26 and October 25, but only has $551,424 cash on hand for the final election push.

News reports peg that number at $1.6 million, but that includes both “the Davis campaign and groups contributing to the effort,” according to NBC Dallas.

In addition to her campaign contributions, her filing includes “Texas Victory Committee,” with $400,000 in the bank, and “Battleground Texas,” with $631,000 on hand.

On its Facebook page, Battleground Texas states:

Political Advertising paid for by Battleground Texas, [battlegroundtexas.com] and not authorized by any candidate or candidate’s committee.

The Texas Victory Committee is described as “A Joint Project of Wendy R Davis for Governor Inc & Battleground Texas.”

Republican candidate Greg Abbott, on the other hand, reports having more than $13 million in the bank for the final push, by himself.
