BATON ROUGE, Louisiana – An illegal immigrant who frequented the Baton Rouge area has been accused by local police of raping and slitting a woman’s throat and is suspected of similar acts with other victims.
Investigators with the Baton Rouge Police Department (BRPD) say Honduran national Manuel Mejia raped a woman in Baker, Louisiana, before slitting her throat–sending her to the hospital where she received stitches, according to WBRZ.
BRPD Spokesman L’Jean McKneely said the illegal immigrant has “been busy here in the Baton Rouge area.”
Mejia was arrested by a SWAT team after investigators staked out the house where he was with the woman whom he had allegedly injured, according to BRPD.
Police are now saying Mejia could be tied to other sex crimes in the Baton Rouge area, specifically where women were raped and cut.
Mejia’s brother, Carlos, was previously charged with an armed robbery after he allegedly held up a convenience store. Police are now saying Manuel Mejia was a part of the robbery.
