The Top US Destinations To Avoid On Memorial Day Weekend

Trending News: Whatever You Do, Don't Go To These Places On Memorial Day Weekend

Long Story Short

If you know what's good for you, you should avoid these top Memorial Day destinations like the plague.

Long Story

For some, Memorial Day weekend is a time for family, grill outs, base tans and fun. For others, it's bumper to bumper traffic, sand kicked in the face and expensive hotels -- which weekender do you want to be?

Offers.com and Hotwire conducted a survey of 1,000 Americans and discovered the most popular destinations for U.S. travelers.

The states are:

  1. Florida
  2. California
  3. New York
  4. Nevada
  5. Texas

Do yourself a favor and avoid these places unless you love traffic and massive crowds.

The survey also revealed that the majority of Americans (67%) will be traveling to their destinations by car and 31% said they're going to a city. So unless you like roasting in your car for 9 hours listening to awful talk radio, don't go anywhere near places like Miami, Los Angeles, New York City, Las Vegas or Austin (this fine country has plenty of other incredible destinations).

In terms of what we like to do, Americans plans include seeing friends and family (36%), getting outside (36%) and grilling out (32%).

Oh, and while we're talking about grilling, what do you plan on cooking up?

Nearly half of those surveyed (48%) said their mouth is watering for burgers, while ribs, sides (beans, potato salad, etc), chicken hotdogs, chips and dip as well as anything else you can think of for a grill out were in a near dead-heat for second-most loved.

But besides burning the crap out of animal flesh, shooting fireworks and drinking copious amounts of cheap beer, Americans enjoy another activity on Memorial Day weekend -- shopping. Offers.com suggests you go hunting for things like a new mattress, appliances, tools or flights, but forget about items like summer clothing, electronics, BBQs and pool equipment unless you want to get screwed.

Have a great weekend!
