Phil Lord might need to find a place to display the Lego-made Oscar that he tweeted on Academy Award nominations morning, when he wrote, “It’s okay. Made my own,” after learning that The Lego Movie was snubbed in the best animated feature category.
The Lego Oscar was actually made by artist Nathan Sawaya and found via a Google images search. Catching up with The Hollywood Reporter at Saturday’s Annie Awards, Lord deadpanned, “But [Sawaya] offered to present it to me, and I’m happy to take it.”

Lord and co-director Christopher Miller won an Annie for writing The Lego Movie at Saturday’s ceremony. Next week, they’re heading to London for the BAFTAs. Still, Lord admitted that that the last few weeks since the Oscar nominations announcement have been “a roller coaster, I think is a generous way to put it.”

On hand at the Annies was Chris McKay, who edited The Lego Movie and will direct the Lego Batman spinoff. “We looked at Batmobiles this morning,” he told THR. “We went to Warner Bros. and opened up all the Batmobiles; we took photos of the interiors and the exteriors, as well as of the costumes and artwork. It was amazing. It was the best trip.”
“What I understand is we get to try on all the Batman suits,” Lord added, saying that he particularly wants to try on the classic Adam West suit and also George Clooney’s version.
Miller added, “And the Joel Schumacher one with the nipples,” as Lord joked that he “wants the sexiest one.”
