Tower Records Fans Will Love This New Documentary by Tom Hanks’ Kid

Check out the legendary rock musicians Colin Hanks got to star in his movie about the musical institution.

All Things Must Pass, a documentary by Colin Hanks (Tom’s kid) uses interviews with music legends like Dave Grohl, Elton John, and Bruce Springsteen mixed with field reporting and archival footage to show how Tower Records went from being a holy land for music fans on the hunt for cool new records,  to nothing more than a relic of the past.

Prior to the onset of MP3s, Tower Records was at the top of its game with two hundred stores, in thirty countries, on five continents. After holding it down for 46 years, they closed their last stores in 2006 once almost everyone started to prefer downloading music over buying physical copies of anything. Hanks is still a fan of record stores though, which prompted him to make this film in the first place.

All Things Must Pass is out in theaters on October 16th, but there are a few chances to see it before then at upcoming film festivals.
