MAPLE HEIGHTS, Ohio -- A man was shot and a woman was pistol-whipped during a Friday carjacking in Maple Heights, police said.

Four people were taken into custody Saturday after police found them in the stolen car, but none have been charged in the assault and carjacking, Maple Heights police Lt. Todd Hansen said Monday.

Officers were called to Raymond Street near Camden Road in Maple Heights on Friday, where they found a man with a gunshot wound to his thigh, police said in a news release.

Two men armed with handguns had robbed a couple of their 2001 Nissan Altima. The pair shot the man and pistol-whipped the woman, police said.

The man was taken to MetroHealth for treatment and was released Sunday. The woman was treated for minor injuries at the scene, police said.

Bedford Heights police spotted the Altima the next day. The Altima took off, but officers eventually stopped it and took one man, one boy and two girls into custody, police said.

Detectives are now working to determine if the victims can identify any of the four as those who carjacked them, Hansen said.
