Ars Technica is hiring! We are looking for an exceptional Web developer to join our small but fast-paced tech team. The ideal candidate will be a technology generalist and have expertise in a number of areas, from data-driven development to devops to front-end. You can work remotely from anywhere in the United States and expect to work on a diverse array of projects. If you think you're a fit, follow the link below!

Developer Application Form

Our ideal candidate will have expert level knowledge of:

  • PHP, including modern OO patterns and frameworks
  • Front-end development including HTML5, Javascript, and CSS3
  • WordPress theme and plugin architecture

Intermediate level knowledge of:

  • Linux server setup, log analysis, and debugging
  • MySQL and/or generic SQL—you should understand how tables in the database relate to output on a website
  • Devops—you should be familiar with deployment and infrastructure management frameworks

And score bonus points for:

  • Chef, Puppet, or Ansible expertise
  • Build tools and asset pipeline (Grunt, Gulp, etc.)
  • PHP dependency management tools
  • Expertise with other languages: Perl, Node, Ruby, Python, etc.
  • Test framework expertise and how to apply to existing environments

Job responsibilities will include:

  • Help to build and maintain a very large WordPress instance, supporting millions of users
  • Provide guidance and technical support to our user base
  • Support ad sales initiatives
  • General IT support for staff (e-mail, etc.)
