The thoughtful teenager discovered they never ate breakfast - so started a daily routine of buying them bacon and sausage sandwiches on his morning commute. And after he ran out of pocket money last week, he held a charity head shave to raise cash to keep his fund going. When the local cafe in Bristol found out about his kind-hearted deed, they started giving him discount sarnies - and put a collection tin on the counter at Princes Pantry. Now the teenager from Windmill Hill, Bristol, has raised more than £100, and is hoping to continue to help more homeless people in city. Humble Hamish said: "I started because I kept walking past these two men and one day I asked one of them what they had eaten for breakfast and he said that he didn't really eat breakfast and that made me sad.

It’s so easy to stick your headphones in and just look the other way.

But that wasn’t good enough for one Bristol teenager, who has spent the last two weeks buying breakfast every morning for two homeless men he passes on his way to school.

‘I started because I kept walking past these two men and one day I asked one of them what they had eaten for breakfast and he said that he didn’t really eat breakfast and that made me sad,’ 13-year-old Hamish Anderson explained.

Using the loose change in his pocket, Hamish started visiting the Princes Pantry café every morning to buy one bacon and one sausage butty for Stuart and Philip, two homeless men who sit near the Princes Street Bridge and Pero’s Bridge.

After he ran out of pocket money last week, he shaved his head to raise cash among his friends and family to keep his fund going.

And when the café found out about what he was doing, they started giving him discount sandwiches – as well as putting a collection tin on the counter for him.

‘One of the men, Philip, has a dog, and sometimes I buy an extra sandwich for him because I don’t think the dog can get very much food,’ Hamish said.

‘One day Huw at Princes Pantry asked me if I enjoyed the sandwiches and I told them who they were for and he has started to give me a discount – two sandwiches for £3 instead of £5 for the men.’

Hamish doesn’t want to stop there though; he’d love to help more of Bristol’s homeless.

‘Homelessness does really concern me and I have watched a lot of documentaries on it. There is not a way out for many of the people and most have lost their ID cards which mean they can’t get in to hostels overnight,’ he told the Bristol Post.

‘It makes me angry at the government, that they aren’t doing more to help.’

Dad James says he’s very proud of his son. ‘Most people wouldn’t stop to help, but Hamish does,’ he said. ‘Me and his mum are very proud of him, of course.’

And Stuart, one of the men Hamish has been giving breakfast to, says the schoolboy is doing more to help than anyone else has in over 30 years. ‘I have been homeless for more than 35 years,’ he said, ‘and this lad is the kindest person I know.

‘I am invisible to most people who walk past, but his kindness warms my heart.’

Hamish is hoping to set up a crowdfunding page to keep his generosity going, but, in the meantime, locals who wish to support him can add to the fund at the Princes Pantry.
