Sandro Homme Interview

Every Stylish Guy Should Know About This

Sandro is known for its clean, stylish wardrobe designed to make anyone look as if they just arrived from Paris. Its menswear line, Sandro Homme, has been around since 2008 and has become a favorite among chic shoppers. Both lines have been expanding here in the U.S. over the years, but a new store in New York is the brand's first standalone U.S. men's shop and it is featuring a different shopping concept and experience.

Over on 145 Spring Street in SoHo, the Sandro Homme Workshop will host in-store artist collaborations along with chic fall and winter styles — and no, we don't mean clothing collaboration. The Workshop is a hybrid store, art studio and gallery, a temporary retail venture for the brand inspired by the fall/winter 2014/2015 campaign and its story of young artists and designed to celebrate art and style.

In the Workshop, Sandro Homme will be showcasing a new artist each month through the end of the year. Each will have a week-long live installation in the beginning of their time in the Workshop towards the front entrance, with their work staying on display through the rest of the month. An Hoang is the first resident-artist, and she will be followed by Joseph Hart in October and Jay Nelson in November.

At the opening of the Workshop I spoke with Sandro Homme Creative Director Ilan Chetrite for styling tips. His simple and matter-of-fact advice to always keep in mind when styling is to "be yourself." To which he also adds the importance of "feeling comfortable" in the styled outfit.

On how to get the Sandro look, he describes it as a style "between chic and cool, " adding that it's about mixing both together. For example, he believes that men should have both leather jacket and suit styles in their wardrobes to achieve the Sandro man look, and not just one or the other. "Every piece is linked to one another. A leather jacket would not make sense if you don't have a suit in your wardrobe too. It's the mix of both universes in the same wardrobe that makes the wardrobe interesting." We spoke more about leather jackets since the fall season is approaching, and Chetrite shared his personal taste on the iconic style. "I'm not a fan of the first rock 'n' roll silhouette; I like it when it's twisted," he says, which we think is shown through Sandro's clean and belted take on the biker and moto styles.

Looking ahead, Sandro will continue its U.S. expansion with the opening of an additional boutique in South Coast Plaza as well as corners in Bloomingdale’s and Saks Fifth Avenue by the end of the year, and Chetrite adds that the brand is also looking to open its first U.S. flagship store in SoHo.
