Police capture black bear strolling through Lawrence neighborhood

A black bear that was spotted strolling through a Lawrence neighborhood Monday morning has been safely captured, according to police.

Local police and MassWildlife staff responded to the Tower Hill neighborhood around 11:45 a.m. after residents of Hobson Street spotted the animal, state environmental police spokeswoman Katie Gronendyke said.

According to the Eagle-Tribune, an officer spotted the bear sitting between two boats.

Gronendyke said the 1-year-old bear was successfully tranquilized and will be relocated to a rural, forested area.
