Specs for the next flagship Nexus phone may have just hit the web.
We’ve already seen alleged specs for the mid-range HTC ‘Sailfish’ Nexus phone. Now we may have received a tip off as to the capabilities of the high-end ‘Marlin.’
Once again, Android Police is the source of these leaked specs, and the website appears very confident of their veracity.
The HTC-made Nexus 6P successor, code-named Marlin, will feature a quad-core Qualcomm processor, though there’s no confirmation of exactly what that will be. This will be backed by 4GB of RAM, and there’ll be a choice of 32GB and 128GB of internal storage.
It’ll also feature a 5.5-inch QHD AMOLED display, a 12-megapixel rear camera, and an 8-megapixel selfie camera. There’ll also be a USB-C port, a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, and a 3450mAh battery.
Bottom-firing speakers and Bluetooth 4.2 support round out the package.
In truth, there’s nothing remarkable in these specs. Indeed, on paper they’re not too dissimilar to last year’s Nexus 6P. That’s because they lack a certain amount of vital detail that would really pin down the phone’s capabilities. Still, it’s an interesting initial sketch.
Also noteworthy is the site’s claim that the Sailfish display will also be AMOLED, although at a lower 1080p resolution. It also states its belief that the Sailfish and the Marlin will share the same cameras, RAM, and CPUs, so the performance gap will be smaller than between last year’s Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P.

The report also reiterates that the two phones will likely look very similar, with the main difference being in size. An earlier report suggested that the new Nexus phones would take design cues from the HTC 10.
It sounds as if Google is going the iPhone route, offering two similar devices with relatively minor differences to size and screen resolution. Expect to hear more as we near a likely September announcement.
