Hugh Jackman Confirms Wolverine For 'X-Men: Apocalypse'

Trending News: Hugh Jackman Just Confirmed Wolverine For 'X-Men: Apocalypse'

Why Is This Important?

Because Jackman's Wolverine is the last remaining link to the original trilogy.

Long Story Short

In an instagram video, Hugh Jackman appears to have confirmed Wolverine's involvement in X-Men: Apocalypse. The brief clip of footage shows the character's trademark claws covered in blood as they come into frame.

Long Story

Because they're not part of the "big picture" MCU, Marvel's X-Men movies don't often get the credit (or ire, depending on your opinion) they deserve for proving the viability of the superhero movie franchise. X-Men: Apocalypse will be the 6th tentpole X-Men movie, but since the disaster that was X-Men: The Last Stand and the ensuing reboot, the cast of characters we met 16 years ago has all but completely turned over. All but one, of course — Hugh Jackman's Wolverine has appeared in every X-Men movie, and going by his recent instagram post, Apocalypse will be no exception.

At this point, why even be coy about it? While he ostensibly could take other roles in other movies, Jackman has made the role his own to such a degree that it would just feel wrong to not have him in an X-Men movie. And since Wolverine's mutant healing powers mean he never really ages, it makes absolute sense to have the same actor play him (Jackman's insane training for the role certainly helps him look the part).

UPDATE: Here's the newest trailer:

We have just over a month until Apocalypse comes out, and then it's been confirmed that we can expect another Wolverine solo flick next spring. After that, Jackman's out, and before long someone else will step in to play Wolverine and we can all get really mad and picky about it.

Ask The Big Question

Will anyone ever actually replace Hugh Jackman as Wolverine?

I don't really even bother going to the movies anymore if it's not a superhero movie.

Drop This Fact

With the release of the third Wolverine movie, Jackman will have played the same character in a 9 films — but he doesn't hold a candle to Desmond Llewelyn, who played Q in a whopping 17 James Bond films.
