How are you celebrating Star Wars day? (Picture: Lucasfilm)

May the 4th be with you, fellow geeks.

It’s that time of year again when we pay our annual homage to the saga that has brought us so much joy over the decades. The pun is cracked out each year to celebrate Star Wars day, with one of the earliest known uses of the pun dating back to 1979 when it was said to Margaret Thatcher to congratulate her for becoming prime minister. And all these years later it still has the same impact that gets fans the world over celebrating this date.

May is an important month for Star Wars fans. It’s the month many films from the saga have been released, as well as being the month of George Lucas’ birthday.

It seems to be extra special this year, after the box office smashing release of Star Wars Episode 7 in December and the upcoming Rogue One spin off later this year.

To celebrate this May 4th Disney and LucasFilms are using Star Wars Day to raise more than $2million for charity with the title ‘Force for Change.’

But this is how the rest of the dedicated fans are spending it, with brilliant tweets like these. The force is strong with this lot:

Gutted we didn’t start our day like this:

We all wish we had this bear’s lightsaber skillz:

It’s the day to shake it like a Stormtrooper:

Here’s a motivational kick starter for your day:

R2D2 celebrated this Star Wars day a little too hard:

Oh just Darth riding a cat:

Actually, he prefers to spend his Star Wars day saving lives at sea:

Someone celebrated with this wonderful* (*creepy) piece of fan art:

Someone else knew exactly how it would go:

Welcome to the dark side:

Someone couldn’t help trolling though:

The 4th is not strong in this one, but his skull might be so watch out:
