Boston little leaguer with Down Syndrome strikes out final batter of the season
Chris Sale and David Price aren’t the only lefties ringing up batters in Boston.
Brayden Gero, a 12-year-old with Down Syndrome, recorded the last out of the season this week for his Oakland Athletics team in West Roxbury’s Parkway Little League.

Little League posted video of Gero’s game-ending strikeout to social media, and it was viewed over 500,000 times by Saturday morning. MLB also featured on the clip on its official website.
Gero’s Athletics beat the Phillies 13-11. It was the 12-year-old’s final Little League game, according to the Parkway Little League. He earned a save for his efforts.
After the batter takes his third swinging strike, Gero’s teammates and opponents flocked the mound on Praught Field in celebration.
“Congratulations to everyone who made this incredible moment possible, including the A’s coaches (led by manager Tim Quinn), the Phillies coaches (led by manager Ross Birch) and batter Chris Thompson,” the league posted on its website, calling the moment an “amazing story of sportsmanship.”
According to MLB.com, Gero played all year for the Athletics in the outfield and recorded his first hit — a single up the middle — in a game the previous week.
