E! News reporter and friend Alicia Quarles shared the news of Brown’s death on Instagram with the message, “You are my earth angel. Now, you are our heavinly[sic] angel.”
Brown was first diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2005 and chronicled her medical experiences in a blog for People, reporting on each new diagnosis and challenge with remarkable hope.
Jonathan Murray, executive producer of Real World/Road Rules Challenge and chairman of Bunim/Murray Productions, expressed his condolences on Friday in a statement to THR. “No matter the obstacle, Diem Brown was committed to living life to the fullest, and we’re forever grateful that she shared that life with us. On behalf of her Challenge family and everyone at Bunim/Murray, we thank Diem for being a fighter in the truest sense and an inspiration to many. Our thoughts are with her loved ones.”
After her first cancer diagnosis, Brown started MedGift, a registry to provide financial support for people going through health-related hardships. She later became a beneficiary of her site’s support.
On Monday, Quarles said in a video report that Brown had been admitted to a hospital again on Sunday after her condition worsened.
On Friday, she posted an Instagram message saying goodbye to her friend: “@diembrown I’ve always told you, you are my earth angel. Now, you are our heavinly angel. I see you dancing in heaven with your mother and grandmother. I promise to live the best life possible for both of us. Thank you for teaching me grace, faith, tenacity and for the gift of Medgift.com You and I will never end. You are my true, dear love.”
