Shatner said he told Abrams, “So it depends on what you do with the character, but I'd be delighted.”
It was previously reported that the current draft of Star Trek 3 includes a scene with Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock. Shatner was supposed to have a cameo in the first Trek, but it was cut before filming. This time around, the scene is said to be "plot-driven and integral enough that it might just survive any future revisions."
"They might want Leonard and myself in it," Shatner said. "But I'd love to do it. But how do you get me fifty years later into the movie? I mean how do you rationalize it. I know it’s science fiction, but even I couldn’t come up with an idea. So that’s the news on that.”
Shatner last donned the uniform alongside Patrick Stewart's Captain Jean-Luc Picard in the 1994 movie Star Trek: Generations. Rachel Haas is a freelance writer for IGN, and you can follow her on Twitter at @haasrachel.
