The Big Bang Theory is finally giving audiences the big bang. Sorry, we had to. But that's right, Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and Amy (Mayim Bialik) are going to have sex for the first time on the Thursday, Dec. 17, episode of the CBS sitcom.

"After over five years of dating, we felt the time was right for Sheldon and Amy to finally consummate their relationship, and we're so excited for the audience to see the journey over the next several episodes," executive producer Steve Molaro said in a statement.

Yes, the power couple was no longer a power couple the last time we checked. Sheldon had that ring handy right when Amy said she needed time alone. What happens to get them to this point? In the Thursday, Nov. 19, episode, Sheldon and Amy try hanging out as friends when they hit the aquarium for Thanksgiving. This comes after Sheldon tried to get a new girlfriend while Amy dated a mystery man in the Thursday, Nov. 12, episode.

Regardless, Sheldon will boldly go where no Sheldon has gone before.

The Big Bang Theory airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. on CBS.
