MOORHEAD-No girl has scored more points in a Moorhead basketball uniform than junior Sam Haiby. On Tuesday, Haiby made sure no girl in a Moorhead uniform has scored more points in a single game.

Haiby dropped 44 points on Fargo Shanley for the Moorhead school record. Haiby was believed to hold the previous single-game record of 35 points, but that was disputed due to there being a hole in Moorhead history where statistics weren't kept very well.

Haiby's performance on Tuesday, however, seems to be undisputed.

"She had the total package," Moorhead coach Jed Carlson said. "She really got to the free-throw line and attacked. She was hitting from the outside, attacking inside. What I'm most proud of is she willed the team to victory. It was the total game she put together for us."

This was a Shanley team that had lost one game in its previous 81 games. Moorhead has now won nine straight games.

"She really gets up for the big games," Carlson said. "On this winning streak, we just keep finding ways to win. She's been getting it done. She's averaging over eight rebounds a game as our point guard."

Along with Haiby's 44 points, she added 10 rebounds six assists, six steals and hit 20 of the 25 free throws she attempted.
