Arrest Affidavit Outlines Coach's Alleged Relationship With Player

In an arrest warrant affidavit released Tuesday, a former softball player says she had sex with her coach at his home after being pursued in a flurry of text messages.

Corinth police revealed Dugan Walker's arrest warrant affidavit Tuesday morning, outlining what police learned while investigating the alleged relationship between the former Lake Dallas High School softball coach and his player.

In the affidavit, Corinth police said they were notified Aug. 6 of an alleged sexual incident that took place in November 2013 between the coach and one of his former softball players.

The student/athlete, given the pseudonym Kendall in the affidavit, told police she had sex with Walker while she was a member of his softball team at Lake Dallas High School. The woman provided Walker's phone number, agreed to discuss the matter with police but initially said she was reluctant to prosecute.

According to statements made in the affidavit, Kendall said she had a good player/coach relationship with Walker and that she'd often visit his classroom while on her lunch break.

Kendall said Walker had her phone number since either her freshman or sophomore year and that "at first it was OK" texting with the coach, but that over time the content of those messages became more mature.

During her senior year, Kendall said they began to text more and that "the texts would become kind of sexual, but I would usually make a joke if he brought it up." She recalled he'd send messages to the effect of "I'm bach'ing this weekend. You should come over" or "My wife's not home." Kendall said he later told her to delete the texts from him.

Kendall recalled that on Nov. 4, 2013, Walker met her in an athletic field parking lot where he asked her, "Are we gonna do this?" and she said she just wanted a player/coach relationship" but that "he'd always come back to that conversation" and that she felt trapped. She described Walker as a bit of a "hot head" who had a temper if things didn't go his way.

She said they went to his house where he "made a move," kissed her and pulled off her shirt before they had sex on the floor. Afterward they discussed another player's injury and she left.

She said after she had sex with the coach, she felt like she "kind of set (herself) up in a way." She said after they had sex Walker kissed her a few times in the locker room or in the parking lot, but that she would always stop him, continue what she was doing or leave.

In the affidavit, Kendall said during a family vacation she confided in a cousin and told her about what took place with Walker. The cousin didn't want to betray Kendall's trust, but knew it was important for someone else to know and told her mother. Her mother, Kendall's aunt, then told Kendall's mother who contacted the school district. The school district notified police.

On Aug. 17, Kendall went to the Corinth Police Department and provided a written statement, which is included in the arrest affidavit, and an intent to prosecute form.

In an interview with police, Kendall's cousin said Kendall had a good relationship with the coach, feared losing that relationship and felt a loyalty to him. She said Kendall didn't want to get Walker fired since the incident was in the past and that Kendall said, "I doubt he's done this with anyone else."

According to the affidavit, Kendall told police she also confided in two other former softball players and an ex-boyfriend about the incident with her former coach. One former player told police she saw late-night, questionable incoming text messages from "Coach Walker" on Kendall's phone and asked her friend about the relationship.

She said in one of the messages "Coach Walker" seemed upset that Kendall was home and "busy" at 2 a.m. The friend said she thought it was "inappropriate" and that she had never texted with her coach. After repeatedly asking about the relationship and the texts, she said Kendall eventually told her they "slept together at his house."

Walker, according to the affidavit, denied ever having any 1 on 1 time with athletes in the field house, in his vehicle or his house and he denied having any inappropriate relationships with students and athletes.

On Aug. 18, Kendall returned to the Corinth Police Department and correctly identified photographs of the interior of Walker's home from those of similarly appointed homes found on Zillow. In every photo she was able to correctly identify whether the photo was an interior photograph of Walker's home or another home.

Police said phone records obtained by investigators showed 36 phone calls between Kendall and Walker between February 2014 and July 2014; between August 2013 and September 2014 nearly 1,700 text messages were exchanged. Police said, "the information was consistent with the time period in which the victim indicated their contact continued and ended."

Corinth police said Monday afternoon, Aug. 24, they arrested 59-year-old Dugan Walker and charged him with improper relationship between an educator and a student -- a second degree felony.

In a statement released Monday, Lake Dallas ISD Superintendent Gayle Stinson said administrators learned of the allegation against Walker on Aug. 6 and immediately placed him on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. Stinson said Walker has since resigned his position with the district.

Walker was formerly a teacher at Arbor Creek Middle School in the Lewisville Independent School District, officials there said he left his position on June 19, 2007 when he took a job at another school district.

Monday's arrest is the latest in a string of accusations against educators in North Texas. Last week, four employees of area school districts were arrested and now face similar charges.

The investigation into the Lake Dallas incident is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact Investigator M. Merendon at 940-279-1505 or Lt. J. Gregg at 940-279-1510.
