Rupert Murdoch‘s News Corp is among companies that have met with former News of the World and The Sun editor Rebekah Brooks as she explores possible next career steps, a source confirmed Friday. She was at the company’s New York office during a visit to the U.S. this week, the person confirmed.
Brooks, who used to run News Corp’s U.K. newspaper business before resigning amid the phone-hacking scandal, was in June found not guilty of all charges in the hacking trial, which ran for eight months.

News Corp said in a statement: “She and her family are here in the United States for a visit, reconnecting with friends and meeting with businesses as she explores and considers her professional future.”
The Guardian reported that Brooks has spent much of the week in the U.S., including a Thursday visit to the midtown Manhattan office of News Corp. She also discussed job opportunities with other companies, the report said without detailing which ones. The news of the visit was first reported by Capital New York.
It wasn’t immediately clear if she was looking at job opportunities in the U.S. or for posts with U.S. media companies in London. The Guardian said that Brooks, 46, her husband, Charlie, and their daughter are looking at moving to New York. A source described Brooks’ talks with News Corp and other companies as early stage.

Brooks in 2000 became editor of the News of the World and, at age 32, the youngest leader of a newspaper in London.
After the hacking trial, she said in a first comment: “I am innocent of the crimes that I was charged with, and I feel vindicated by the unanimous verdicts.”
Industry observers have long predicted she would look to return to the media industry and possibly News Corp.
