At least four people were killed and another 20 injured during a terror attack outside Parliament today that began when a vehicle mounted a pavement on Westminster Bridge.
The Hyundai i40 4×4 drove up the kerb on the south end of Westminster Bridge hitting pedestrians and continued along the bridge until the vehicle crashed into railings near the House of Parliament.
The attacker then burst past security in Old Palace Yard where he stabbed a police officer before being shot by their colleagues.
Four people were killed in the terror attack – including the police officer and the assailant as well as two other people on the bridge.
Of the 20 injured some are believed to be in a critical condition suffering from what have been described as catastrophic injuries.
Parliament was busy at the time and packed with politicians including the prime minister, who was quickly escorted to safety.
MPs that were taking part in a debate in the chamber were locked in and only allowed to exit Parliament after five hours.
The suspect was believed to be behind the wheel of the Hyundai, which is believed to be a year old and registered to an affluent area of Essex.
Amongst those injured were three French school children, two of whom were said to be in a critical condition.
