Father of Ahmad Rahami says in interview his son 'did everything by himself'

ELIZABETH -- The father of Ahmad Khan Rahami, the suspect in the New York and New Jersey bombings, told ABC7 in an interview Wednesday that his son "did everything by himself."

Mohammad Rahami told ABC that Ahmad Khan Rahami had changed the locks on his bedroom door in the family-owned apartment above First American Fried Chicken in Elizabeth.

He told ABC he was suspicious of his son.

Mohammad Rahami also told ABC News that Najiba his wife and one of his other sons, Qassim, were detained in Afghanistan as they were trying to return to New Jersey.

Mother and son went to Afghanistan in June, Mohannad Rahami said.

The father also said that his son Ahmad Khan remained hospitalized in Newark with a serious infection.

Mohammad Rahami previously told reporters that he called the FBI twice about his son.

Mohammad Rahami also said in the interview that his wife and other son have been detained in Afghanistan.

Najiba Rahami and the family's other son, Qassim, were on a flight returning to the United States, the report says.

The members of the Rahami family are naturalized U.S. citizens, originally from Afganistan.

Ahmad Khan Rahami faces federal and state charges in connection with the three bombings and his arrest in Linden. Rahami remains incapacitated in University Hospital.

Twenty-nine people were injured in the Chelsea bombing. No one was injured in the Seaside Park bombing and Elizabeth incident.

FBI Director James Comey said Tuesday that Rahami is not linked to a larger terror cell.
