Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton won last year's Sports Personality of the Year award in Glasgow, taking 34% of the 620,932 votes cast, with golfer Rory McIlroy second and athlete Jo Pavey third.

Real Madrid footballer Cristiano Ronaldo was named Overseas Personality of the Year, and the England women's rugby union team took the Team of the Year prize.

European Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley won Coach of the Year, six-time Olympic gold medallist Sir Chris Hoy was honoured with a lifetime achievement award, and Young Sports Personality of the Year was given to gymnast Claudia Fragapane, who won four gold medals at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

So when is Sports Personality of the Year? Where is it being held?

Belfast's 8,000-capacity Odyssey Arena will host the awards spectacular on Sunday, 20 December.

It will be the first time that Northern Ireland has hosted the event, which first went on the road in 2006.

Before we go all Sports Personality, let's leave the last word of the day to Judy Murray - who, quite frankly, could win the Davis Cup if she declared her family an independent country. She spoke to 5 live earlier about her sons' achievements and their celebrations last night. 

"The players went out for the official dinner back at the venue and the family waited for them at the team hotel Andy came in with his suit on and went straight back upstairs and came back down in his joggers and t-shirt. Some things never change," she said. 

"We had some champagne at the table. Some fizz was consumed. Everybody was having a great time."

On seeing her two sons winning the doubles together, she said "It is a very special moment. The great thing for them is that they know each other very well but they also know each other’s tennis very well. 

"They intuitively know what they need to do. They’re both great fighters, great competitors. For me watching them, it’s always the doubles which gets me the most. It was really quite amazing to be able to watch that. "

In case you missed it, new world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury's father John is a very proud dad.

So proud that earlier at a media conference in Bolton, following his son's victory over Wladimir Klitschko, he embarked on an incredible rant in praise of the 27-year-old.  

Ali Carter says he was struggling with abdominal pain caused by Crohn's Disease during his UK Championship third-round exit against John Higgins. 

The two-time World Championship finalist lost 6-2 defeat at York's Barbican Centre, having previously overcome a battle with cancer. 

"I've got such a handicap against all the other players, living with this Crohn's Disease that I've got," he said. "You can't settle, when you've got constant abdominal pain like I have at the moment. I don't want to keep going on about it but it really is p***ing me right off at the minute."

Don't forget that in addition to the Sports Personality nominees being revealed at 19:00 GMT on the One Show, the Monday Night Club is well worth a listen on BBC Radio 5 live with Mark Chapman. Kevin Kilbane and Robbie Savage are among his guests. 

Forgive us for not mentioning this sooner but former England, Leicester and Everton striker Gary Lineker is 55 today. You may have seen him presenting Match of the Day recently where he looks slightly different.

Peter Ebdon said his vegan diet helped him defy sleep deprivation to send world champion Stuart Bingham crashing out of the UK Championship at the last-32 stage.

Ebdon only finished his 6-5 second-round win over Dominic Dale at 1.30am and was back on the table at York's Barbican Centre less than 12 hours later. 

He said: "I've probably had four or five bananas today, I've had some apples, grapes. I feel as fresh as a daisy. It would have been so easy for me to fold today and I just felt fantastic. 

"I'm absolutely over the moon, it's not every day you beat a world champion."

Zinedine Zidane's son, Luca, has reportedly been sent off for clashing heads with an opponent during Real Madrid’s youth game with Atletico Madrid over the weekend. 

It had echoes of Zinedine's infamous headbutt on Italian defender Marco Materazzi, while playing for France during the 2006 World Cup final.

World champion Stuart Bingham suffered a shock defeat against Peter Ebdon at the the third-round stage of this year's UK Championship.

Bingham has struggled to find his best form since winning at the Crucible but had been impressive in winning through to the last 32. 

However, former world champion Ebdon wore down the Essex man in a tense opening six frames before easing to victory.

John Higgins joined Ebdon in round four, with a clinical 6-2 victory over Ali Carter.

Barcelona have filed a formal complaint against two former Real Madrid players turned pundits after they suggested Barca forward Neymar deserved the kick he received from Real midfielder Isco in this month's La Liga 'Clasico'.

Isco, who had come on as a substitute 10 minutes into the second half of Barca's 4-0 win at the Bernabeu, lashed out in apparent frustration at Neymar in the 85th minute and was shown a straight red card.

According to Barca, former Real players Manolo Sanchis and Poli Rincon "publically and repeatedly justified the aggression" on Spanish radio and the club said on Monday they had filed a complaint with a Spanish government commission that seeks to combat violence in sport.

The Ballon D'or nominees were announced earlier and you can probably guess who was involved. But come 19:00 GMT the BBC Sports Personality of the Year contenders will be revealed on the One Show on BBC One and it promises to be a little bit more tricky to predict.

Only goal difference separates Premier League leaders Manchester City and second-place Leicester City but, on average, Manuel Pellegrini's players cost more than 10-times the amount of their Foxes counterparts, says new research by the CIES Football Observatory. 

Across Europe's big five leagues, only Real Madrid have fielded more expensive players than Manchester City, whose average cost is £19.9m per player.

By contrast, Leicester's stars cost an average of £1.76m. Real top the list with players who set them back £21.6m each. Ouch.

England hit 154-8 in the third Twenty20 match in Sharjah to set Pakistan a target of 155 to win the game. James Vince's 46 runs have given England a chance after a poor start. They have an unassailable 2-0 lead.

Andy Murray and his Davis Cup team-mates have laughed off the idea of a victory parade after Great Britain won the title for the first time in 79 years against Belgium on Sunday. 

Murray said: "I'm not sure anyone would come, we'd just be going round London seeing sights on our own and waving at buildings."

Captain Leon Smith added: "Yeah, that could backfire."

Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic insists the needs of the team must come first as Chelsea reflect on Diego Costa's display of petulance in Sunday's goalless draw with Tottenham where the striker flicked a bib at Jose Mourinho after not being introduced as a substitute.

Ivanovic said: "I expect Diego to come back strongly. We start the season as a team and we have to finish as a team. Sometimes for a player who isn't playing it's difficult but it is a normal situation for the club. 

"When we start losing we all know it's not about the one or two players playing badly or playing well - it's about the team."

Snooker’s Players Championship will be staged at Event City in Manchester for the first time next year.

The world ranking tournament will run from March 22 to 27 and will feature many of the sport's top players with a top prize of £100,000.

It was previously staged in Ireland and Preston, and last season took place in Thailand, where Joe Perry claimed the title by beating Mark Williams in the final.

Stoke and England goalkeeper Jack Butland believes clubmate Glen Johnson is playing well enough to warrant an international recall.

Full-back Johnson has not featured for national boss Roy Hodgson since last year's World Cup in Brazil.

"If he gets into the England side. it's because he's doing extremely well for us. He's relishing the opportunity to be back out there showcasing what he's got, which is a lot of talent," Butland told BBC Radio Stoke.

Former England captain Lewis Moody expects Eddie Jones to appoint Steve Borthwick and Leigh Jones, who worked with him while in charge Japan, when selecting his England coaching team, but believes Exeter's Rob Baxter must be given a role. 

Jones officially begins work at Twickenham on Tuesday after agreeing a four-year contract to become Stuart Lancaster's successor.

"I'd love to see Rob involved," Moody said. "I like everything he stands for at Exeter where he has done so much despite having fairly scarce financial backing."

Victor Valdes' wife has hit out at Manchester United for not inviting her husband to a charity function at Old Trafford on Sunday. 

Manager Louis van Gaal and first-team players squad attended the club's annual dinner for Unicef, which raised £230,000 but Valdes was not invited. 

The goalkeeper's wife Yolanda Cardona took to Instagram to criticise the club. Underneath a picture of players she wrote: "Do not invite to my husband @vicvaldes1 to be part of the #united4unicef , it's the last thing you don't expect from one of the biggest club as @manchesterunited. A Charity event, its always a Charity event." 

United said Valdes was not invited because he is not a member of the first-team squad. Valdes signed for United on an 18-month contract in January, but the former Barcelona stopper has only played two games for the club.

Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Sam Hutchinson has admitted he must cut out "stupid tackles" ahead of their League Cup quarter-final meeting with Stoke.

The 26-year-old has collected 10 yellow cards this season and missed Wednesday's last two games through suspension.

"I'm obviously learning the position because for 17 years at Chelsea I was a right-back or a centre-back, but the last three bookings were rash," he said.

West Ham are waiting to hear the extent of the injury suffered by Diafra Sakho after he limped off with a thigh problem against West Brom on Sunday.

The Senegal international's injury is the third to hit the Hammers attack after playmaker Dimitri Payet and winger Enner Valencia were hurt against Everton earlier this month. 

"You can see injuries in every club and to be fair the number who are missing is not a lot, but the ones missing are key players who play in the same position," said manager Slaven Bilic. 

"Valencia, Payet, and now Sakho. It is very hard to replace them."

Good news for Manchester City fans after the striker limped off against Southampton on Saturday.

The Premier League says its clubs' payments to agents from 1 October 2014 to 30 September 2015 have risen from £115m for the same period last year to £129.86m this year.

Liverpool spent most on agents fees, amounting to £14.3m, with Manchester United second on £13.8m, Manchester City third on £12.4m and Chelsea fourth on £11.9m. 

Who'd be an agent eh?

The Daily Mail reports that Chelsea fear they could be stuck with striker Radamel Falcao until the end of the season.

The Colombia international has failed to impress during a season-long loan spell from Monaco and the Blues are keen to end the deal as they look to free up space for a new striker in January.

However, his parent club are reluctant to take him back in the transfer window.

Australia coach Ange Postecoglou says former Everton striker Tim Cahill could play all the way to the next World Cup.

The 35-year-old, who now plays for Shanghai Shenhua scored three times against Bangladesh earlier this month to reach 45 international goals and would be almost 39 when it comes to Russia 2018.

"He can't stop scoring goals and if he keeps scoring goals he'll keep getting picked," said Postecoglou. 

"At the moment I think he's still performing very very well for us and he's a massive contributor. We've got some young players coming through who we know will help us get to the next level but we're certainly not going to push Timmy into retirement while he's playing the way he is."

Elite League rider Darcy Ward says he is "unlikely to ever walk again" following a high-speed crash in Poland three months ago.

The 23-year-old, who was on loan to Swindon Robins from Poole Pirates before the accident, is confined to a wheelchair and planning to return home to his native Australia.

"I know that this is probably it forever. But I also know that miracles can happen in medicine in this day and age," he told BBC South Today.

The IAAF ethics commission has suspended three senior Kenyan track and field federation officials over the "potential subversion" of the anti-doping system in the country.

The IAAF says Athletics Kenya President Isaiah Kiplagat, vice president David Okeyo, who is also an IAAF Council member, and 2015 world championships team leader Joseph Kinyua have been suspended for 180 days "in the interests of the integrity of the sport.''

The three men are also accused of "potential improper diversion from Athletics Kenya of funds received from Nike.'' 

The IAAF says Kiplagat is also being investigated over an "apparent gift'" of two cars from the Qatar Athletics Federation received by Athletics Kenya in 2014-15. Qatar won the right to stage the 2019 world championships in a November 2014 vote.

Reigning world champion Stuart Bingham is in trouble at the mid-session interval in his third-round UK Championship meeting with former world champion Peter Ebdon.

Veteran Ebdon only finished his second-round game at 01:20 this morning, but is showing no ill-effects and is 3-1 ahead.

John Higgins, one of the pre-tournament favourites at the York Barbican and already a double ranking event winner this season, leads Ali Carter 3-1.

Carter had chances in all of the frames but Higgins has been in ruthless form and has taken advantage of any errors.

Bolton have issued a statement on their website confirming the first team playing squad are yet to receive their wages for the month of November.

It says: "This is due to the ongoing situation surrounding the club's ownership off the field." 

Trevor Birch, recently appointed as adviser to the Bolton Wanderers board and owner, said: "This is due to a short-term funding issue. We are working hard behind the scenes and hope to have this resolved in a quick and timely manner and  I will be meeting the players tomorrow to update them."

Anthony Joshua says an all-British world heavyweight title showdown with Tyson Fury "will happen" at some stage after Wladimir Klitschko's reign over the division came to an end on Saturday. 

Joshua faces Dillian Whyte at London on 12 December, and is aiming to extend his perfect professional record to 15 wins.

The 26-year-old told Sky Sports: "People want it to happen, at some stage down the line it will happen, whether it's next year or the year after. I believe I can beat anyone, so I can beat Tyson Fury."

"It's been lashing down with rain all day in York so far. Perfect weather for snooker you would have thought.

"Apparently not. The moisture in the air affects the consistency of the bounce of the balls off the cushions and most of the players have all been complaining. Even Stephen Maguire, who won his second-round game 6-0.

The International Cricket Council has responded with a brief statement after former New Zealand cricketer Chris Cairns was cleared of perjury and perverting the course of justice.

The statement reads: "The ICC notes the decision of the jury finding Mr Chris Cairns not guilty and confirms its utmost respect for the process that has been followed.

 "The ICC and its Anti Corruption Unit (ACU) will continue to work closely with and provide all possible support to players in order that the fight against corruption can be tackled effectively and collectively.

 "The ICC will not make any further comment on this matter."

Interesting musical tastes from the Manchester City man...

The Quo - as they are known to their fans - played a sold-out show in Manchester on Sunday.

And with that, a truly remarkable news conference finishes. 

In a news conference where Tyson Fury compared himself to a Mongoose, his trainer and uncle claimed it was the "greatest victory in heavyweight boxing since Ali v Liston", and his father compared David Haye to the lion from the Wizard of Oz, and commanded the assembled media to "stand up and bow down to my son", whilst railing against those who 'try to discredit' them.

There's no doubting it, Tyson Fury is unique...

As the remarkable news conference draws to a close, the start of the show, John Fury, adds "Can I just say one more thing?"

"Germany treated us so well. Those beautiful people in Germany got behind us, they told us we could do it. They treated us like human beings, treated us with open arms. Thank you Germany."

This is quite remarkable. Tyson's father John Fury is getting into his stride. 

He challenges the assembled journalists, whom he calls 'plastic', standing up and commanding "Get up and bow to my son, every one of you". 

The 50-year old John Fury then challenges Lennox Lewis to a fight!

"There were all these little things that Klitschko did that affected other fighters in the past but they didn't faze me.

"I have a saying - If God is with me, who can be against me?"

Fury also admitted that one of his friends brought all of the food and water he consumed in Germany over from England to avoid possible contamination.

A question from a journalist to Tyson: How good a role model will you be for kids who look up to you? 

"It depends what type of role model you're after. If you're after a yes man, it's not me. If you want someone who knows what the world is like, then yes, they can look up to me"

Tyson says he wasn't too impressed with Wladimir Klitschko. "I was expecting him to be stronger. He hit me flush on the nose - I didn't feel it. He hit me on the temple - I didn't feel it at the time. I did afterwards, I've been taking Neurofen for the pain!"

"Take the glamour and the glitz away from these people, they're all just bare bums in the shower.

"I'm still Tyson Fury. I'm still going to go home in an old Land Rover and go to bed. 

"If people don't like it, change the channel. Dont' take photos. Don't print it in your newspaper. Do I care? Not really."

Tyson Fury admits his victory still hasn't sunk in.

I'm not really interested whatever I have to fight next," he says.

"I am just focussing on what I have done. It's not sunk in yet. I'm just waiting for it to come down. I feel like I am floating about and when I come down I will make a decision on who I fight next.

"I haven't done something I didn't believe I could do. I outboxed him for 12 rounds rather than knocking him out in two and that is better."

Tyson's father John Fury begins by saying "I haven't really got much more to say". 

It turns out that he has. 

"If there is such as thing as the 8th wonder of the world, then you're looking at it. My son. He had people disbelieving him, people discrediting him.", he says.

"Times do change, people move over to a new beginning. This is a new beginning in boxing. This has never been done before, and will never be done again."

He then singles out one reporter whom he calls a 'disbeliever' - "we've had a million people like you", he says, before going on to compare David Haye to the lion from the Wizard of Oz, saying he lacks courage.

"We cornered Wladimir Klitschko - we had four world title eliminators, and we defeated him, humiliated him. It was the sweetest moment ever. And believe you me, there's a lot more to come from Tyson Fury."

Trainer Peter Fury takes to the microphone.

"Nobody gave Tyson a chance except his own people. It goes to show how these so-called experts can get it so wrong," he says.

"Wladimir is a great champion. Tyson was not able to get some of his shots off just like Wladimir couldn't get some of his shots off.

"Tyson has learned his craft very well. To beat Wladimir to the jab and to win this fight convincingly. He has made a statement.

"This is the greatest victory in heavyweight boxing since Ali v Liston."

Tyson gets a round of applause from the assembled media as he is introduced, and he's off with his trademark humility. 

"That was a masterclass performance over the best fighter on the planet" he says with a grin. "No-one else had landed any shots on the guy. It just shows you what type of talent you're messing with. 

"Anyone who wants to try and discredit my performance is just pure jealous".

In amongst all that, there were three nominations for Fifa's goal of the year, also known as the Puskas award, which is decided by a public vote. They were for Alessandro Florenzi's 55-yard strike for Roma against Barcelona, Wendell Lira's bicycle kick for Goianésia and Lionel Messi's mazy run for Barcelona against Athletic Bilbao last May. 

All worthy contenders, but there is some debate about another goal which is missing from the shortlist....

Also worth mentioning that Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola, Barcelona manager Luis Enrique and Chile head coach Jorge Sampaoli, who led his team to victory in the Copa America, are the nominees for Fifa World Coach of the Year in men's football.  

And in the men's nominees for Fifa player of the year, it's Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar. Quelle surprise! 

World Cup winning captain Carli Lloyd is among the trio for the Fifa women's player of the year. She is joined by Japan's Aya Miyama and Germany's Celia Sasic.

England women's boss Mark Sampson has been announced as one of three nominees for Fifa World Coach of the Year in women's football after leading the Lionesses to bronze at the World Cup. After United States won the trophy in Canada, their head coach Jill Ellis is among the trio as is Japan's Norio Sasaki, whose side wer beaten in the final. 

Tyson Fury is about to give his first news conference since his return to Britain after winning the heavyweight title at the weekend.

Phil Neville and Voro have taken charge of first-team affairs at Valencia until further notice following the resignation of manager Nuno on Sunday night.

A formal statement is expected later on Monday after a meeting between Nuno and club directors, but Neville and Voro led training on Monday morning, the club said on Twitter. 

Bournemouth forward Junior Stanislas says his late equaliser in their 3-3 draw with Everton is the first headed goal he can remember scoring.

The 26-year-old netted his second of the game in the eighth minute of stoppage time.

Lewis Grabban is targeting a run in the Norwich side after scoring the equaliser against Arsenal on his Premier League return after he was suspended in August for refusing to be a substitute in a Capital One Cup tie at Rotherham.

"Every player wants to stay in the team and scoring gives me a bigger chance to do that," the 27-year-old told the club's official website. 

"The manager has been fine so I've just been working hard to get back into the team. Hopefully I can now move forward and the team can look forward to the next game. Getting the point was the most important thing for us."

PDC World Darts champion Gary Anderson will start the defence of his title against either Denmark's Per Laursen or the runner-up from Monday's final qualifier after the draw was made for the 2016 tournament.

Michael van Gerwen, who won his fourth straight PDC major title at the weekend by beating two-time world champion Adrian Lewis in the Players Championship Finals, will face either Thanawat Gaweenuntawong of Thailand or Rene Eidams of Germany.

Chesterfield have named academy boss Mark Smith as their caretaker manager following Saturday's sacking of Dean Saunders.

The 55-year-old former Sheffield Wednesday, Barnsley and Plymouth defender joined the club's coaching staff in 2013.

Japan is looking to cash in on the rugby fever that swept the nation in recent weeks by unveiling a life-size bronze statue of World Cup star Ayumu Goromaru.

Goromaru was one of the stars as the team claimed three wins at the World Cup, including beating South Africa in their opening game, with his kicking proving key.

The statue will decorate Tokyo's Christmas illuminations for a month.

"They've reproduced my fingers in real detail," was the verdict from the 29-year-old.

Nicky Henderson has announced SprinterSacre will not run in Saturday's Tingle Creek Chase at Sandown. 

The Desert Orchid Chase at Kempton over Christmas is the next likely race for the former Queen Mother Champion Chase hero following his comeback success in the Shloer Chase at Cheltenham earlier this month.

"He's in really, really good form but, having got him into good shape and the right place, he just doesn't need another race at the moment," Henderson said.

British boxer James DeGale said he was inspired by Tyson Fury's world title win over Wladimir Klitschko after he beat former champion Lucian Bute on a unanimous decision to retain his IBF super-middleweight title in Quebec.  

“The Brits are flying right now,” said DeGale. “Tyson pulled off the upset in Germany, I watched it in the hotel, it really did inspire me to go out and keep hold of my title, it gave me that extra push. I boxed in the amateurs with him and been around squads with him, and he's gone on to prove a lot of doubters wrong.”

Chris Cairns has been answering questions from reporters outside court about his acquittal: 

When asked about Lalit Modi, whom he sued for libel: "I think I'll think about Mr Modi maybe next week. I'll deal with this one at the moment and get through today."

When asked about the evidence of former teammates who suggested that he had been involved in fixing: "There were two ex-teammates who came with evidence, others who were there to support. Mr Pownall (his defence QC) summed it up well when he said there was an assumption of guilt. I don't think people were there with malicious intent. There were really only a couple of people who had that assertion." 

When asked what next: "Reputationally, I'm completely scorched. Burned, completely. It hasn't stopped me, and it won't stop me." (At this point, his lawyer interjects to point out that it hasn't changed his reputation, as he had been acquitted". 

More from Chris Cairns outside Southwark Crown Court: "It's a pretty robust system and the jury came back with a not guilty verdict and I couldn't be more happy. You have to be a bit careful, it's not a victory as such, there are no winners."

BBC reporter Alex Capstick at Southwark Crown Court: "The jury took 10 hours and 17 minutes to reach their verdict and they decided Chris Cairns is innocent of perjury, of not lying under oath, or perverting the course of justice after he successfully sued Lalit Modi of the Indian Premier League for accusing him of match fixing. This was one of the best all rounders in cricket when he was in his pomp. Today he has been cleared of perjury. 

"The jury came back to the judge last week and asked if they could reach a majority verdict and today they did so. At least 10 needed to agree on the same decision."

Hull City manager Steve Bruce has been facing the media ahead of his side's trip to Premier League leaders Manchester City in Tuesday's Capital One Cup quarter-final at the Ethiad Stadium.

"We have got to play to our maximum and hope that City have one of their off days, which doesn't happen very often," said Bruce.

Newcastle defender Daryl Janmaat says the players are "100%" behind manager Steve McClaren following their 5-1 loss to Crystal Palace on Saturday and reports of player unrest in training last week. 

"We have to stick together in difficult times, that's really important," Janmaat said. "Hopefully we can bounce back on Sunday [against Liverpool], it’s really important. It will be a tough game but we are looking forward to it."

Speaking at the North East Football Writers dinner where he picked up the Player of the year award for 2015, Janmaat added: "We've had a poor year but hopefully we can learn from this and have a really good 2016."

While we are dealing with the weekend's sporting events, British former world heavyweight champion David Haye has responded to Tyson Fury's claims that the new world champion will never fight him.

Haye, who is making a comeback but pulled out of two Fury fights in 2013, told the BBC: "It says a lot about a new champion that he's saying he won't fight the man who would generate the most amount of interest and money, and would be the biggest possible fight on the planet for him.

"Fair enough, I will work my way up the rankings. I've done it before at cruiserweight. [Fury] has to realise I'm not after him, I'm after what he has - the belts. He knows that my style would absolutely murder his style."

"I'm 28 but my body feels a lot older right now," Andy Murray tells BBC's Joe Wilson. 

"I still hope to play for the next five or six years." Britain's world number one is already looking ahead to the Australian Open in seven weeks, and will be back on the practice court next week.

"We want to see more people playing. It's an important time to get strategies rolled out as soon as possible", he said. "We've got to get people on the court, but also keep them on the court, and that's down to good clubs and good coaches, keeping kids involved in it as long as possible.

"It's what Andy and Jamie's mum has done so well. She gets so many people involved, but she can't keep doing it on her own. Let's hope it can have a positive influence."

Andy Murray: "Davis Cup is completely different to watching individual tennis, you see all of the team bench, the flags, and supporters, there were something like 5,000 Brits watching, which is amazing for a tennis match. 

"Even people that don't normally watch tennis would have enjoyed the weekend because of the atmosphere and when it's for your country, people get into it as well, so I hope the governing body capitalises."

Scotland's Stephen Maguire said the tables are "not good enough" for the UK Championship after he defeated Jamie Cope 6-0 to make the third round in York.

"That's one of the worst tables I've played on," the world number 15, told BBC Sport.

"It's not good for the crowd because we can't play good snooker. It's not good enough for a big tournament like this."

World Snooker say they are aware of the players' concerns and are looking into ways to address the situation, with Maguire saying he had "no confidence" where the ball would end up after some of the bounces he was getting off the cushion.

Birmingham have confirmed manager Gary Rowett will stay at the club amid speculation linking him with the vacant positions at Championship rivals QPR and Fulham.

Birmingham director Panos Pavlakis has issued a statement on behalf of the club's board confirming they expect Rowett to stay at St Andrew's.

GB's Davis Cup captain Leon Smith has been revealing some of the work he did to help Britain to their first Davis Cup win in 79 years. 

He told BBC Radio 5 live Breakfast “The main thing that I tried to instil in the team was being as prepared as possible, and that comes in many guises - it’s about the training, the scouting of opposition which then leads to having clear game plans and tactics."

"Someone like Andy is able to figure things out and react to any situation he’s in, it’s really incredible to watch", he said.  "The whole journey in tennis is a lonely one, although they have coaches and physios on the road, it is down to them, they’re playing for themselves. 

"Andy has always enjoyed team competition, it’s something he really enjoys because you’re playing for the team, the country, and it really is a different feeling.” 

Peter Fury, uncle and trainer of the new heavyweight champion of the world, Tyson Fury, has been giving 5 live Breakfast details about a possible rematch with Wladimir Klitschko. 

"(Wladimir) has got until the end of January to decide if he wants a rematch. We're looking possibly at Wembley, maybe around the end of May."

Andy Murray said securing Britain's first Davis Cup win for 79 years was a more emotional experience than winning Grand Slam titles or Olympic gold.

Murray became only the third man after John McEnroe and Mats Wilander to end a campaign with an 8-0 singles record.

The Daily Mirror reports that the 68-year-old former Tottenham and QPR boss could take over at Newcastle United if Steve McClaren is sacked.

A public memorial for New Zealand rugby great Jonah Lomu, who died earlier this month at 40, has been held at Auckland's Eden Park stadium.

The two-time Olympic gold medallist has been hindered by injuries in recent seasons and been below his best this year for the struggling Lakers.

He outlined his intentions in a poem on the Players Tribune.
