A 16-year-old boy was found dead by his mother in an abandoned house’s comfort room at around 7 p.m. last Sunday.

PO2 Gilbert Encabo of Barili police said that earlier in the day, the boy had asked permission from his mother to enroll in one of the universities in Cebu City but was denied his request. She said the city was too far and there was no one to look out for his safety.

She suggested he enroll at the nearby Cebu Technological University (CTU) in Barili.

The mother began to worry when she couldn’t find her son later that afternoon.

While she searched for him, neighbors told her they saw the boy enter the abandoned house, Encabo said.

She found the boy hanging in the comfort room with a piece of nylon rope around his neck and one end tied to a beam.

Police concluded it was a suicide as there were no signs of foul play.
