Nicki Minaj surprised her fans on Friday night by releasing a short film connected to her new album The Pinkprint, which was released on Monday.

At 16 minute-long The Pinkprint Movie, which was announced only by a tweet from the star, is rather more somber and emotional than other videos connected to the album: Anaconda, which features a banana-cutting, scantily-clad Minaj; a lyrics video for Only, which courted controversy with its Nazi imagery; and the actual music video for the same song, which sees Lil Wayne and Drake lost in Minaj’s dominatrix bunker garage.

Minaj’s new film begins with the album’s opening track, All Things Go, and continues with The Crying Game, I Lied and Grand Piano.

Minaj stars in the three-part movie, which considers her relationships with two men, played by model Willy Monfret and actor Boris Kodjoe.

The Pinkprint Movie is directed by Taylor Cohen and Francesco Carrozzini.
