McDonald's restaurant closes on Staten Island after 20-year run

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- After a 20-year run, the McDonald's at 2795 Richmond Avenue in New Springville has closed. A spokeswoman for the company explained that the lease was up for the location.
 
"It has been an honor to serve this community, and we appreciate the support of our elected officials, fellow business owners and neighbors," said franchisee  Marianne Spillane in a statement. She also owns four other borough McDonald's.

"We are happy to report that almost all of our employees have accepted jobs at nearby McDonald's locations," said Mrs. Spillane. "We look forward to continuing to serve our customers at one of our other McDonald's restaurants on Staten Island."

The New Springville restaurant's final day of business was Feb. 28 and since then has been stripped.

Among other McDonald's locations on the Island: Restaurants can be found at 1660 Richmond Ave., Bulls Head; 260 Page Ave., Richmond Valley; 803 Forest Ave., West Brighton; 1815 Forest Ave., Graniteville; 1388 Hylan Blvd., Grasmere; and 501 Bay St., Stapleton.

The Graniteville McDonald's was the first in the borough. It opened in November, 1973 and closed down in spring, 2014 for a complete renovation. It's grand reopening happened in February, 2015.

The Graniteville outlet was the first of the Golden Arch locations to offer ordering kiosks. The technology sees electronic touchscreens for customized orders and upgraded services.

In other Staten Island fast food news, a Burger King in the neighborhood recently reopened after renovations. Wendy's restaurants also are getting overhauls location by location with the most recent one reopening in Dongan Hills. A new operation in Eltingville is slated for a Friday grand opening. Business will be open to the public at 11 a.m.

Baya Bowl with its location in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, will open in early summer on Page Avenue in Richmond Valley.
