Meg Mac is set to release her debut studio album Low Blows next month, and it's clear the 26-year-old Australian singer-songwriter found empowerment in embracing selfishness for her own well-being.

"Don't Need Permission" is indicative of this approach, where Mac lays out her expectations and doesn't apologize for it. "I'm tired of games, you play by my rules or leave/I know what I want and I get what I need," she sings without batting an eye.

"'Don’t Need Permission' is about being yourself and not changing who you are for anyone," Meg Mac told Complex via email. "It was recorded and produced in Malibu, Los Angeles with Christopher Braide. I played piano and used lots of different layered harmonies and melodies to build the song." This execution shines through on a record that also features a soaring and inspiring hook.

"The rest of my album was produced in Fort Worth, Texas with Niles City Sound, who are the guys who produced the Leon Bridges album," she added. "I'm a big fan of his record, which inspired me to check out their studio."
