Lost ID Returned With Hilarious Letter

"Hope you don't mind I used it for a while," the letter reads. "But - now I'm 21 so you can have it back!"

When Massapequa Park native Christina Egan lost her ID last year, she never expected to get it back — until she received a mysterious and quite funny letter.

The 23-year-old was finishing up grad school at Columbia University in New York City when she lost her ID while out at a bar.

"I usually just go out with my ID, debit card and lip gloss in my jacket pocket," she told Patch. "No purse, no wallet. Bad habit."

Egan had forgotten about it until she got the letter in the mail about two weeks ago from an address in Albany.

"The envelope was unlabeled, I had no idea what was going to be inside," she said. "The stationery was really nice. I was thinking it was some type of invitation or a holiday greeting card."

Since losing her driver's license she had already replaced it and forgotten about the situation, so she was confused when the ID slipped out of the envelope.

In addition to her own driver's license, Egan found a note that read:

Found this on the floor of a bar about a year ago, hope you don't mind I used it for a while. But - now I'm 21 so you can have it back! Thanks.

"I thought for a second that I might have been pranked but after asking around I put the pieces together," Egan said.

She thought that the letter was hilarious as well as sweet, especially with the fancy stationery.

"I'm sure that ID saw some good times...if only it could speak," she said. "I'm sure it was a college student trying to enjoy her junior year of college. I hope this mystery girl enjoyed her time as Christina."
