Patrick Stewart in drag or Kellyanne Conway? Twitter marvels at actor's resemblance to Trump's counselor

A year ago, Patrick Stewart dressed up in drag to promote his ill-fated sitcom, Blunt Talk. The British star of stage and screen put on a shiny pink dress, a glamorous grey wig and a full face of make-up for his appearance at the Los Angeles screening of the TV comedy, in which he starred as the drinking, drug-taking and philandering news anchor Walter Blunt. 

The photographs made the press at the time and Stewart, who posted a photograph of his make-up being done to Twitter, won comparisons to Helen Mirren for his new look.

However, as recent history will attest, a lot can change in a year and, with the dawn of Donald Trump's US presidency, people have noticed an uncanny similarity between Stewart's drag persona and another woman: Kellyanne Conway. 

The controversial counselor to the President has attracted negative attention for making up the "Bowling Green Massacre" in an attempt to defend Trump's Muslim ban

One of the first people to point out the similarity was journalist and activist Tom Knight, on Twitter: 

 But the uncanny comparison was swiftly picked up by others, causing Stewart's fancy dress moment to be dragged back into the news cycle again:
