Presidential inauguration 2017: What time, events, schedule, who's performing for Trump (1/20/2017)

WASHINGTON -- The 2017 presidential inauguration takes place Friday, Jan. 20, 2017 as Donald Trump will be sworn into office at noon as the nation's 45th president.

The Oath of Office is just one of the events scheduled that will take place over three days in Washington to celebrate the inauguration of a new president.

U.S.Reps. Donald Payne Jr. (D-10th Dist.) and Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-12th Dist.) are boycotting the inauguration. The other members of the state's congressional delegation are scheduled to be there.

Here's the schedule, according to the Presidential Inaugural Committee and Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies:

THURSDAY

10:30 a.m: Voices of the People performances at the Lincoln Memorial, including high school marching bands and other groups that asked the Presidential Inaugural Committee to participate in the ceremonies.

3:30 p.m.: Wreath laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery.

4 p.m.: The Make America Great Again! Welcome Celebration at the Lincoln Memorial. Participants include Toby Keith, Jon Voight, and Lee Greenwood, plus the president-elect himself. The event will conclude with a fireworks display.

FRIDAY

6 a.m.:  Gates will open to the Capitol grounds.

9:30 a.m.: Inaugural ceremony begins. Trump and President Barack Obama will meet at the White House and ride to the inauguration together, as is traditional.

11:30 a.m.: Opening remarks begin. Mike Pence will be sworn in as vice president by Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.

Noon: U.S. Chief Justice John Roberts Jr. administers the oath of office to Trump. The new president will deliver his inaugural address and then have lunch at the Capitol with members of Congress. Following the inauguration, Obama will take one last flight on Air Force One, which also is traditional. His destination is Palm Springs, Calif.

3 p.m.: Inaugural parade begins down Pennsylvania Avenue NW from the Capitol to the White House.

7 p.m.: Inaugural balls. There will be three official balls this year. The new president and vice president and their wives traditionally show up at all of them.

SATURDAY

10 a.m.: National Prayer Service at Washington National Cathedral.

At the same time, protesters will descend on the nation's capital for the Women's March on Washington. There are sister marches scheduled around the country, including in Asbury Park, Mt. Laurel, Pompton Plains, Trenton, and Westfield.
