Blake Sims hasn't played in an Alabama uniform since the 2014 season.
He was back this week, sorta.
With the challenge of Texas A&M's Trevor Knight coming to town Saturday afternoon, the Crimson Tide brought Sims in to play his role on the scout team. That revelation was made Saturday morning on ESPN's College GameDay broadcast live in Tuscaloosa.
Sims was most recently a member of the Atlanta Falcons practice squad after a brief stint in the Canadian Football Leauge this summer.
Sims was live on the set in full shoulder pads and helmets demonstrating some of the things Alabama has to do at 2:30 p.m. CT Saturday against the No. 6 Aggies.
"He's able to extend plays with his feet and he has a nice arm and great receivers, so we really have to play our game," Alabama safety Eddie Jackson said this week. "We have to keep those guys covered. We've been working on a scrambling drill in practice this week, keeping guys covered while the quarterback is scrambling and not coming out of coverage."
Both Jackson and Sims were at Alabama when Knight led Oklahoma past Alabama in the Sugar Bowl following the 2013 season.
Sims isn't the first former player to take scout team reps with the alma mater. Marshawn Lynch did the same thing with the Cal Bears earlier this season when they played the opener in Australia.
