FARGO-After eight weeks of intense training, three young men are now Fargo firefighters.

Recruits Ross Nelson, Tyler VanDeVelde and Michael Hawley were sworn in Friday afternoon, April 21, at Fire Station 4 at 2701 1st Ave. N.

For the last two months, they have learned the techniques needed for fighting fires, rescuing the injured and saving people who have fallen into the river.

The three men will now be assigned to a Fargo fire crew at one of the stations around the city.

Families were on hand to help pin the official badges on the new firefighters.

"And their captain will work with them day in and day out, and that will keep going in their career and as they become captains, they will start training their new recruits," training Capt. Joe Mangin said.

The three join 73 other firefighters in the Fargo Fire Department.
