INDEPENDENCE, Ohio -- Rookie point guard Key Felder was placed in the NBA's concussion protocol after he was hit in the head at practice Friday, the Cavs announced.

Cleveland, which already has problems at backup point guard, said Felder's condition would be updated Tuesday morning, before the Cavs open the 2016-17 season against the New York Knicks.

Kevin Love missed Game 3 of the Finals while in the protocol in June. Players must pass a series of tests -- including riding stationary bike, jogging, agility drills, and non-contact basketball drills -- without presenting any concussion symptoms after each test.

The Cavs were already working to trade for a backup point guard so that Felder would not have to carry much of the load behind Kyrie Irving.
