Fashion Week Rundown

Fashion Week is in full swing with London’s biggest designers showcasing what will be the most sought after pieces. Realistically most collections are truly a luxurious buy for most guys, but certainly an option as a must have treat when you get your quarterly bonus from the office.

Don’t be alarmed by the abundance of chunky knits, designers have made these ensembles the brand champion for collections using the layering approach for maximum impact. Rules are: layer, layer and then more layers. And the truth is it makes your wardrobe selections in the morning much easier. Oversized scarves work a treat with your Savile Row picks and look best when teamed with dress lace up shoes.

Tailored looks all have an acquired polished style with their shiny finish on single breasted jackets. Trousers are loose and cross over to denim with a clean-cut, straight shape leading the way. But, it doesn’t stop there guys, to fully embrace the Autumn/Winter 08/09 trends you need to invest in a Messenger bag with bags of detail — it’s not about the contents it about the embellishment.

Ones to Watch

Alessandro Dell'Acqua approached the season with a gentle colour palette of peach and biscuit, white and dove grey. He ensured the finest of knits were showcased in jumpers under suit ensembles and played with Ts over shirts and loose-fitting cardigans.
Yves Saint Laurent brought a cultural vibe to the season with his cut to drape effect that results in a rejuvenated Russian dancer look. Not an everyday collection but, one for the Bravehearts of Autumn/Winter 08-09 fashion celebration.

Paul Smith is all about rock 'n' roll with a true union jack flair. The tailored looks are sharp and impeccable, with fine details in the lapels. Essentially it’s a shabby version of the seventies print and cut trends, with its knitted ties and mixtures of brown and cream making appearances.

Also amongst the must-buys for your diary are Jaeger who have returned with more refined understated aesthetics for the British man. Shawn Collins showcased chunky knits with a true urban outdoor feel and though the shows see new talent parading asymmetrical cuts and voluminous pieces, classic brands such as, Calvin Klein display the obvious choices for ready-to-wear that keep the collection in the game.
