Here’s a question: If you tell the story of Noah’s Ark… but set it in present day… are you still telling the story of Noah’s Ark?

While you think about that, NBC is developing a modern-day Noah’s Ark drama from famed producer Robert Zemeckis (Back to the Future, Cast Away).

According to the network, “The Ark” will be a “grounded, modern retelling of the Noah’s Ark story from the Bible; after the death of his wife, an engineer has a vision to construct a ship capable of sustaining life in space. When the build happens to coincide with the coming end of the world, the engineer realizes there may be a larger story at play.” Newcomer Daniel Kunka (12 Rounds) wrote the script and 20th Century Fox Television is the studio.

Most recently, the Biblical story of Noah was retold on the big screen in an 2014 Darren Aronofsky movie starring Russell Crowe that was an, um, interesting adaptation.

But a modern-day Noah’s Ark… how will that work, exactly? Will we still take two of every animal, or can we let, say, fire ants and alligators slide? Will Tinder still function on the ship or will the Almighty shut it down? So many questions.
