The Denver doctor who made racially charged remarks about Michelle Obama resigned from her job Friday, the Daily News reports. Michelle Herren and the Denver Health Medical Center, where she worked as a pediatric anesthesiologist, “mutually agreed” on the split, according to a statement released by the hospital.

Herren came to national attention after comments she made in which she called the FLOTUS a “monkey face,” circulated online and generated major media coverage. “Monkey face and poor ebonic English!!! There! I feel better and am still not racist!!! Just calling it like it is!” Herren wrote under a photo of The First Lady.

Herren’s resignation comes just one day after the University of Colorado announced that it was terminating her tenure at its School of Medicine, despite the fact that her position was unpaid. Initially, it appeared as though Herren might keep her job, but after several students filed complaints with the school to let her go.

“She has expressed values that are at odds with ours, and she has compromised her ability to meet the teaching and patient care mission of the School of Medicine,” the school said in a statement.

After Herren’s comments—which also included a jab at Obama’s Harvard pedigree—went viral earlier this week, the doctor argued that she wasn’t aware of their racial implications, and that they were taken “out of context.”

Whether she actually believes that or not, it's something she'll have plenty of time to come to terms with while searching for a new job.
