Update: Chelsea Handler is on a straight-up nudity rampage. About an hour ago, the 39-year-old comedian posted the photo below on Instagram of her imitating Kim Kardashian's trending booty-baring cover shot for Paper magazine. It's hard to say now whether Handler is really trying to make a point about the double standards of nudity for men and women, or just showing off her assets. Either way, no one's complaining — we're just glad that in this case, unlike during "The Fappening," we're seeing a female celebrity's body because she wants us to, not because someone else wanted us to.
Update: Aaand she's at it again.Following the controversy over her self-portrait parody picture of Vladimir Putin's "topless on a horse" pose getting taken down from Instagram, here's Chelsea Handler freeing the nipple all the way down the Amazon river. She won't rest until every man, woman and child has seen her nipples and liked it, goddamit.
Why Is This Important?
Because it's 2015. Can't a woman just show her breasts if she wants to?

Chelsea Handler posted a photo of herself topless while riding a horse as a parody of Valdimir Putin's infamous photo depicting himself doing the same thing. Instagram removed the photo, Handler called "sexism" on them and promptly quit Instagram.

The photo on the right is the photo that led to Chelsea Handler quitting Instagram (the photo on the left is just Vladimir Putin being Vladimir Putin). What's the difference? Well, other than the fact that Chelsea Handler is self-aware and Putin is hilariously delusional, Chelsea Handler has boobs — boobs than Instagram deemed unfit for the eyes of their social media community.
After Instagram took down the photo, Handler posted a screenshot of their message to her with the caption "If a man posts a photo of his nipples, it's ok, but not a woman? Are we in 1825."
In my opinion, she has a point — a point that has been echoed by other big name supporters in the fight for topless rights such as Rihanna and Rumour Willis.
Why are men allowed to be topless and women aren't?
Heck, if you added a bit of fat to Putin's "pecs" they could almost be boobs. What makes a boob a boob? It's ability to produce milk? The fact that it's attached to a woman? But why should any of that matter if what offends us about them is their appearance? And in that case, is anything that even looks like a boob offensive? Exhibit A:
Those aren't boobs. They're elbows. But Facebook thought they looked enough like boobs to take the picture down.
So clearly, the qualification for a boob to be offensive is that it looks like a boob, not that it is attached to a woman. In that case, I'd imagine there are probably a lot of picture of topless men out there that should also be taken down. We'll have to come up with some sort of fatness and roundness measure to decide which boobs stay up and which come down. What about the nipple? Is there a certain length, or shape at which it becomes offensive? Does the diameter of the areola come into play?
I think it's probably time to rid ourselves of our horror of the boob. There are a lot of other images in popular media to be horrified about, particularly violent ones. For example: This video game about a disgruntled man going on a vicious mass-murdering spree that involves stabbing and mutilating women and people of color was given the green light, but Chelsea Handler's boobs are too much? Priorities, people. I'd like to see more games about boobs, less games about vicious, hate-filled violence.
