Melanie Trump drew a complete blank when the Pope asked her what she had been feeding husband Donald.

The First Lady was meeting the pontiff in the vatican with Donald Trump when he politely inquired: "What are you feeding him, potica?"

According to a Vatican spokesperson (via The Guardian), Francis was referring to his favourite nut-filled Slovenian cake, which he always brings up when he meets a Slovenian.

Melania thought he had said "pizza", to which she quizzically repeated "pizza?", before laughing along and affirming, "Yes, pizza."

Which must have baffled her, because everyone knows that Trump's a KFC man.

Some reporters in the room had initially thought the Pope was poking fun at the President's paunch, but it was in fact a joke he had prepared especially for Melania.

Tough crowd.

Trump has admitted previously that he "could lose a little weight", adding that he'd like to lose "15 to 20 pounds" (via The Independent).

Meanwhile, Trump and the Pope exchanged gifts, with Trump offering a box filled with books written by Martin Luther King, while the pontiff reciprocated with a large medallion that depicted an olive branch (via Sky News).

"We can use peace," Trump replied.

The Pope also pointedly gave Trump some of his writings, including his recent plea to fight climate change, and the importance of protecting our environment.

At least we already know how Trump likes to eat his pizza. Crust first, obviously.
