NYPD: Teen charged with murder in Stapleton shooting

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Police have arrested and charged an 18-year-old man in the death of Tairiq Matthews, 19, who was shot in the head while standing in front of a bodega near 487 Vanderbilt Ave. on June 30.

Davon Tramun, of Continental Place in Mariners Harbor, was charged with murder, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a firearm, according to a statement from the NYPD's Deputy Commissioner of Public Information.

According to a source, Tramun fired from outside a nearby nail salon. It did not appear that there was a dispute prior to the incident.

EMS pronounced Matthews dead on the scene.

A 9mm shell casing was recovered from the scene, according to police.

At the scene, an emotionally distraught man ran up to officers, screaming and crying: "That's my brother! What happened to my brother? I was just with him! I just left him!"

Moments later, a bystander began yelling: "This is so sad. Everybody wants to blame the police, but you guys are out here shooting and killing each other! This has got to stop!"
