Pickup truck collision shuts down Route 40 for 3 hours, cops say

PILESGROVE TWP. -- A collision between two pickup trucks early-morning Sunday shut down a portion of Route 40 for three hours, according to New Jersey State Police.

Both drivers were taken to hospitals for injuries, said Trooper I Lawrence Peele. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Both pickup trucks, a Ford and a GMC, were traveling eastbound on Route 40 when they collided around 5 a.m. near the Salem County Fairgrounds in Pilesgrove Township.

Authorities airlifted the driver of the Ford to Cooper University Hospital in Camden for non-life-threatening injures. The GMC driver was taken to Christiana Hospital for complaints of neck pain.
