DeJ Loaf has Detroit on fire right now. "Try Me," the hit record from the 22-year-old rapper with an ear for melodic hooks, has served as street single for anyone with a bullying problem. The song's hook is everything: "Let a n**** try me, try me / Imma get his whole motherfucking family / I ain't playing with nobody / Fuck around I'm a catch a body."
For a pint-sized female rapper to lay down that hook and have it explode within a machismo genre speaks to her passion and authenticity in her delivery. You really do believe that DeJ Loaf is going to shoot up your whole motherfucking family if you cross her. "Try Me" does that.
The record, however, has now become a street anthem whose effect isn't confined to the midwest. Spanning from coast-to-coast, YG, E-40, the L.O.X., and Wiz Khalifa have all release their own remixes to "Try Me," but on the hit's official remix, DeJ Loaf opted to recruit Ty Dolla $ign and Remy Ma. Both artists match DeJ Loaf's spirit and street fortitude, with Remy Ma coming out with the hardest bars: “Come to your P’s, hit you in your lobby/ I lay a n**** down if he try to rob me."
