Sylvester Stallone hints at Ivan Drago/Adonis Creed fight in potential 'Creed' sequel

Star Michael B. Jordan last year said that the 'Creed' sequel ought to have a "real villain" for his character to go up against.

The sequel to 2015's Rocky spinoff Creed may involve a little revenge on one of the series' greatest villains, judging by Sylvester Stallone's latest tease of the film's script.

Stallone over the weekend shared a photo of a handwritten draft of a script, hashtagging the image with "#drago," "adoniscreed," and "#rockybalboa." References to Dolph Lundgren's character Ivan Drago from Rocky IV and Michael B. Jordan's character from Creed, Adonis Creed, the tags seems to hint at some sort of showdown between the two:

Stallone later shared a photo of himself and Lundgren preparing to spar:

According to Entertainment Weekly, Stallone is currently writing a script, but will not confirm if it is the script for a Creed sequel. The Rocky star initially wrote the first six films in the franchise, but handed it off to Aaron Covington and director Ryan Coogler for Creed. Coogler is currently at work on a Black Panther film, which is slated for February 2018 release date.

Drago, of course, is known as the villain who killed Apollo Creed, Adonis' father, in the that precipitated most of the action in Rocky IV. A showdown between the two would make sense. Jordan, meanwhile, last year said that the Creed sequel ought to have a "real villain" for his character to go up against. As he told EW, Adonis needs an enemy "to go up to and have some real animosity towards."

This, of course, is not the first time Stallone has teased a potential Drago fight. Earlier this month, Stallone hinted at an appearance from the Russian fighter in an upcoming film with an Instagram post, writing that "history will always repeat itself in one form or another" as a caption for an image of Drago facing off with Creed:

Following its release in 2015, Creed earned $170 million at the box office, and garnered Stallone a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor in 2016 (he lost the Oscar to Bridge of Spies' Mark Rylance). The upcoming film will be the seventh in the Rocky franchise.
